Drug Uses
Celexa is an oral antidepressant used to relieve symptoms and reduce the frequency of relapses of major depressive disorder. Celexa helps to reduce depression symptoms in the first week of the treatment. However, to achieve a long-lasting antidepressant effect, Celexa tablets are advised to use within a few weeks or months.
- The recommended duration of initial therapy of major disorder with Celexa is 6 months.
- To prevent recurrent episodes of major disorder, the duration of Celexa use can be reduced to 2-3 weeks.
Results of clinical studies have demonstrated that when using Celexa tablets within 1-1.5 months, the antidepressant effect persists for six months after the intake of the last dose of this antidepressant.
The treatment of depressive illness can be considered a successful one if a patient manages to maintain reasonably positive mood and does not complain of sleep problems, rapid fatigue, poor concentration or suicidal thoughts after the end of using Celexa tablets.
Missed Dose
If you miss Celexa tablets, take the missed dose of your antidepressant as soon as you remember. However, do not take a double dose of this selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) even if you have missed several Celexa pills.

Besides the fact that Celexa is effective in the treatment of major depression, it may alleviate the symptoms of panic disorder. Customarily, Celexa causes adverse events of mild nature that may weaken or disappear within the first two weeks of drug therapy of depression. The most frequent adverse events that can be caused by a short-term therapy of Celexa are: asthenia, diarrhoea, sleep disorders, confusion, paraesthesia, palpitations, headache and tremor.
